Why

Correct — A. Keshav Prasad Maurya was a Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in July 2023, the month the stem fixes.

He took the post when the Yogi Adityanath government was sworn in for its second term in March 2022, alongside Brajesh Pathak, and he had held the same office from 2017 in the previous term.

The stem says 'one of' precisely because Uttar Pradesh has had two deputies in that government, not one.

Concept

'As of <month, year>' is written into the stem on purpose: SSC is asking who held an office at a fixed moment, and the answer does not change when the holder later does.

Uttar Pradesh has had two Deputy Chief Ministers since March 2022 — Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak — under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The office itself is not created by the Constitution. A deputy is sworn in as an ordinary minister under Article 164, and the prefix is political rather than constitutional.

Because the post is a political title rather than a constitutional office, some states have two deputies, some one and some none at all.

Yogi Adityanath is the obvious Uttar Pradesh name, and the single word 'Deputy' is what disqualifies him.
Manoj Sinha's own politics are rooted in Uttar Pradesh, but on the stem's date he was posted to Jammu and Kashmir.

When a stem pins the office to a month, that month is part of the question — the answer is whoever held the post then, not whoever holds it now.
