Why the others are wrong
- (a)9 — 9 is the code for is, the word common to all three statements. It cannot also stand for she, which appears in only one of them.

Concept
Sentence codes are solved by intersection, never by position. The digits are printed in an order that does not match the words, so nothing can be read off left to right.
