Why

Correct — B. Rule: a protected area is paired with the animal it is identified with, not merely with an animal that lives there.

Kaziranga, in Assam, is identified with the greater one-horned rhinoceros.

Periyar, in Kerala, is both a tiger reserve and an elephant reserve, and elephants are the species it is popularly identified with.

That is the same park-to-signature-animal relation, so option (b) completes the pair.

Why the others are wrong

Gir : Leopards — Gir, in Gujarat, is the last wild home of the Asiatic lion. Leopards do live there, but the lion is the species the park is identified with.

Gahirmatha : Lions — Gahirmatha, in Odisha, is a marine sanctuary known for mass nesting of olive ridley turtles. It is coastal habitat, and lions do not occur there.
(d)
Ranthambore : Peacocks — Ranthambore, in Rajasthan, is a tiger reserve. Peacocks are common across much of India and are not what the reserve is known for.

Concept

Park-and-species analogies test one fact on each side, and the relation is flagship species. Leopards do live in Gir and peacocks in Ranthambore, so an option can be factually harmless and still be the wrong relation.

Kaziranga anchors the pair through the greater one-horned rhinoceros, so the second pair has to be an equally direct park-to-signature-animal link.

Periyar and elephants supplies it. Each rejected option attaches a park to an animal that park is not identified with, and one of them, Gahirmatha, is not even terrestrial habitat.

Two of the wrong options are wrong in different ways: Gir names an animal that is genuinely present but not the flagship, while Gahirmatha names one that does not live there at all.
