Correct — C. MN is drawn as a vertical line to the right of the characters, so the reflection is left-to-right.
Rule: reverse the order of the characters, and laterally invert every one of them.
The figure reads Y h 3 2 j g F. Reversed, the order is F g j 2 3 h Y, and each glyph must face the other way.
Option (c) shows exactly that — a backwards F, a backwards g, a backwards j, a backwards 2, a backwards 3, a backwards h, and a Y.
The Y looks untouched because Y is symmetric about a vertical axis, so it is the one character a vertical mirror cannot change. Every other character in option (c) has flipped.
Why the others are wrong
- (a)The letters are handled correctly, but the two digits are printed 3 then 2, both upright. A vertical mirror reverses their order to 2 then 3 and flips their shapes as well.
- (b)The digits are right, reversed to a backwards 2 and a backwards 3, but the h is upright, with its stem on the left. In the reflection the stem falls on the right.
- (d)Two characters are left unmirrored — the leading F, whose arms still point right, and the digit 2, printed upright. Everything else in this option is correctly reversed, which is what makes it tempting.
Concept
A mirror on a vertical line MN swaps left and right and leaves top and bottom alone. Two things change together, and options are built by getting one of them right and the other wrong.
First, the order reverses: the character nearest the mirror ends up nearest the mirror in the image, so the last character of the figure becomes the first of the reflection.
Second, each character is laterally inverted. F, h, j, g, 2 and 3 all change shape. Y does not, because it is symmetric about a vertical axis.
Because Y is symmetric, it appears the same in all four options and proves nothing. The item is decided by three characters: the F at the start, the h, and the pair of digits.
