Correct — B. The Marine Aids to Navigation Act, 2021 repealed and replaced the Lighthouse Act, 1927, which is option (b).

The 1927 law was built around lighthouses and lightships and the dues charged for them. Ships are now guided by radio, radar and satellite-based systems as well, so the new law was drafted around the wider idea of an aid to navigation.

It also covers vessel traffic services, the training and certification of personnel, and the development of heritage lighthouses for tourism.

Concept

A repeal-and-replace question is really a question about scope. The Lighthouse Act, 1927 was written when a light on a headland was the aid to navigation, and the law was framed around lighthouses, lightships and their dues.

The Marine Aids to Navigation Act, 2021 keeps that function but widens the subject to any aid to navigation, visual or radio or satellite-based, and adds vessel traffic services, training and certification of personnel, and the development of lighthouses as heritage and tourism sites.

The stem calls it the Marine Aids to Navigation Bill, 2021, which is what Parliament passed. After assent it became the Marine Aids to Navigation Act, 2021 — the same law under the name current-affairs notes use.
