Profit ∝ capital × time. Amit: 30,000 × 12 = 360,000. Let Rahul invest for (12 – x) months: 20,000(12 – x). Given profit ratio 2 : 1 ⇒ 360,000 : 20,000(12 – x) = 2 : 1 ⇒ 360,000 = 40,000(12 – x) ⇒ 12 – x = 9 ⇒ x = 3. Therefore Rahul joined after 3 months, option (b).
