Bt brinjal is a genetically modified crop containing the Cry1Ac gene from Bacillus thuringiensis for pest resistance. People's resistance to its introduction in India stemmed from multiple concerns: the risk that the introduction of Bt brinjal could adversely affect the biodiversity of brinjal (Statement 1), the possibility of cross-pollination with non-GM varieties affecting organic farming (related to Statement 2), and concerns about long-term health effects that had not been adequately studied (Statement 4).
