(01×10 = 10) (a) Passage: “The earth is my mother and I am her son.” When every person regards the land of his birth as his mother-land his heart becomes attached to it and a divine feeling arises. Whatever the circumstances of life, he never forgets the debt he owes to the mother-land. When such a feeling becomes firm, true national unity is born. In this state, true citizens do not think of trading worldly pain or pleasure with one another but rather of their duty towards the mother-land. OR (b) Passage: “There is nothing wrong in studying English, but to become English after studying English is bad. To study English and then forget one’s own country, language and culture is bad.” I say this because most English-educated gentlemen of today look upon everything of their own land with disrespect, criticise it and think it great to adopt foreign ways.
