It was even believed that they represented the highest standards of literary beauty which English writers had only to follow to attain perfection in their art. They have come alike from colleges, workshops and farm-houses, to the huts of poor men and the mansions of rich. Some of God’s greatest apostles have come from "the ranks". The poorest have sometimes taken the highest places, nor have difficulties apparently the most insuperable proved obstacle in their way.
